Piercings
Take these in consideration
Before your piercing appointment
If the customer is a minor, the most important part is that he/she wants to get pierced and is prepeared to take responsibility of the healing process (With or without his/her legal guardian).
Make sure to check with your younger, before reserving an appointment, that he/she is prepeared to be committed to the after-care instructions.
Under 16 years old has to have a legal guardian with them during the piercing appointment.
We do not suggest using Anesthetics such as “Emla”. Piercing is a fast procedure and the pain very temporary. Anesthetics can cause more harm than good.
- Piercings are 16+ (Nipples and Dermals 18+) Minors have to have a legal guardian with them during the piercing appointment.
- Consultation is always free
- Do not use blood thinners (unless you have to) 24hours before your piercing appointment.
- Drink and eat well before your appointment, dress casually and preferably in dark clothes.
- Piercings are not done if you are intoxicated or sick. Please arrive healthy and sober.
After-care
After getting pierced
Most important part about piercing after-care is always a healthy lifestyle, which speeds up the healing process. If possible, avoid nicotine and alcohol. A proper after-care is equally important as a good quality starting jewelry and correct piercing method, since a fresh piercing is always prone to infections.
Cleanse the piercing twice a day with either saline solution or piercing spray for example after taking a shower, and do so untill the piercing is completely healed.
Tighten the piercing jewelrys balls as necessary always with clean hands, preferably at the same time as your after-care. This is to ensure that the jewelry doesn’t fall off. If the ball falls off, make a temporary one out of surgical tape, which you can press on to the stud, so the jewelry doesn’t fall off.
Usually from all percing studios you can buy new jewelry balls (the piercing jewels measurements will be written on the care-instructions).
Remember to always clean the sweat off after working out.
Mouth Piercings
Change your tootbrush the same day as you get your piercing, so the bacteria from your old tootbrush doesn’t enter the pierced wound.
Tounge piercings should be brushed carefully, also around the piercing so it doesn’t pick up dirt and bacteria.
Rinse with non-alcoholic mouthwash always after a bigger meal. Cleanse the outside of the lip piercings with either saline solution or piercing spray.
Don't do
Do not use disinfecting or wound cleansers even if the piercing feels aggitated. Disinfectants dries the skin tissue, increases risk for hyperthrophic scars or irritations bumps and prolongs the healing process.
Sauna, swimming and sunbathing should be avoided for at least 2-3 weeks. Also straining, physical activities should be avoided for a few days after getting pierced. Avoid touching the piercing and bumping it into things. If you sleep on your side, using a piercing pillow or travel pillow is adviced. If the piercing is constantly pressed up against something or is snagged on to, for example. a pillowcase or your shirt, it prolongs the healing process and in worst case scenario the piercing angle might shift.
Especially in the beginning of the healing process the piercing might secrete light yellow skin fluid, which is not pus and is completely harmless. Dry tissue fluid can be rinsed off with lukewarm water. Do not rip or scrape the dried tissue fluid off by hand, it irritates the piercing and prolongs the healing process.
Piercings in or near the mouth area
carbonated and citrus drinks, spicy food and milk products should be avoided the first few weeks. Milk products form dental plaque, and it attracts bacteria. Also smoking and alcohol should be avoided the first few weeks after getting pierced, to avoid impurities and haemorrhage.
Possible swelling can be controlled with ice cold water, icecubes or even popsicles (not citrus-based). Solid foods should be avoided the first week.
Other things to notice
The piercing after-care is always the customers responsibility and it requires patience.
Healing is always individual, even if given an approximate time (Usually 3-12 months) depending on the piercing.
The starting jewelry is adviced to change into a shorter stud after 1-2 months after being pierced at the piercing studio. The starting piercing is long due to possible swelling. The jewel is important to change to a shorter bar after the swelling has subsided, so it doesn’t snag on to your hair or clothes, and so prolonging the healing process and in worst case scenario shifting the piercing angle.
It’s common after being pierced the area might become a bit sore, swell, bruise or slightly bleed. During the swelling the piercing might look a bit crooked, but straightens out once the swelling subsides and the skin normalizes. Possible symptons should cease within a few weeks. For the worst pain and swelling you are allowed to use pain-killers.
If you suspect that the piercing has been infected, do not remove the jewelry but contact your piercer. A unhealed piercing is prone to bacteria, do not remove the jewelry to early, this could lead to an infection. A fresh piercing can close up within a few minutes.
